History of Wirral Chinese Association

In the late 1980’s, the Wirral Chinese Community felt there was a need to form an association to represent our community to the mainstream services.

Wirral Chinese Association (WCA) was inaugurated in the summer of 1988 with the aim to promote the benefits of the local Chinese, with the support of our local authorities and other organisations. We are a registered charity and have a Committee to oversee the affairs of the Association. The first Chairperson was Ms Eva Tan. We did not have a permanent address at that time. During this time, it was felt amongst the three Wirral communities; the Chinese, Asian and the Vietnamese residents that a centre was needed to assist them in their daily life.

With the combined efforts and hard work of the said communities; The Wirral Chinese Association (WCA) was formed and opened in May 1992 at the old address Wirral Multicultural Centre (WMC). To provide facilities in the advancement of education, local welfare advice, leisure activities, helping to improve the communities social and economic wellbeing.

WCA is a very proactive and energetic Association in the Wirral. At the beginning of 2020, WCA and Wirral Change have been working together to support and integrate the Chinese Culture into our local Communities. Over the course of time it continues to expand and develop.

Furthermore, the Association is managed by a group of dedicated individuals – the WCA Committee – it contributes greatly to the Association’s functions and works.

Our Association has four projects

  • WCA Luncheon Club (LG)
  • WCA Chinese School (CS)
  • WCA Cultural Group (CG)
  • WCA Women’s Group (WG)

These four groups together with our Committee members are the backbone of the Association.
